Security Is A Process Not A Product
Security professionals need to be disciplined in their approach to their work.
James Dutkowski, PSP, M.B.A.
They need to be able to follow procedures, even when it’s inconvenient. They need to be able to stay focused, even when they’re bored. And they need to be able to make quick decisions under pressure.
Here are a few examples of how discipline can make a difference in physical security:
– A security guard who is disciplined in their rounds is more likely to catch a criminal in the act.
– A security manager who is disciplined in their budgeting is more likely to get the most out of their security team.
– A security analyst who is disciplined in their research is more likely to identify a security threat before it happens.
Of course, discipline is not the only thing that matters in physical security. But it is one of the most important ingredients for success.
So, if you’re looking to make a difference in the world of physical security, focus on developing your discipline. It’s the one thing that can separate you from the good and the great.
I would also like to add that discipline is not about being perfect. It’s about making progress, even when it’s hard. So don’t get discouraged if you make mistakes. Just pick yourself up and keep going.
